You know, if it's possible to chain the 40mm grenades with U-clips, they would make a very good approximation of the stubby 37mm rounds used by the 1874 Hotchkiss Gun (basically a Gatling Cannon)....

Hey will, have you trid to make the wooden parts( stock) hve a rotten wood type color, then have the metal parts ( Barrel and handguard) Rust, that would just be boss.

Anyway, i am loving this proto. My 3rd favorite prototype. Keep up the good work Will.

Nothing personal, but I'm not fond of the V2 design very much. I don't like, because it's really plain, and for whatever reason when I think about it it looks obscure and then remind me of a baseball bat. At the very least in the new design, I'd like to see the V1 Ring/? near the front.

Ooh! That Makes Me love my over-molded BF proto even more! You guys did a really good job with this one! Anyway, a little friendly criticism, It seems as though the the place where the minifig holds it on the stock is a little short, causing the minifig to have trouble posing :) By the way, I must be loony, or I haven't been following this specific thread In a while, but what do folks mean by V1 and V2?

V1 means the first version of the prototype that will has created
and V2 is the second version that has some mild changes before he makes a final version for mass production( there is such a thing as V3 but it is pretty rare)

I really like this proto. The overmolding gives it more detail and really makes it stand out! The 40 mm grenade looks great as well. It really compliments the gun/grenade launcher (whatever you want to call it) I have a question for Will though. Have you tried making a sight on the gun like one of those flip up ones or would that be to flimsy and would it break off too easily?

Thanks

I happen to have the V2 of this gun, and let me say that I liked the V1 better, it looked better in an overmolded state, but seeing as overmolding isn't likely in production items, the V2 would probably look better in one solid color. but thats just my 2 "bottle caps" (yeah, i've been playing fallout :D)

I noticed in the rumour control that the design is finalised and will see mass production. Is this the V2 or V1?

I know a lot of people, myself included, expressed their preference to V1 and wasn't sure if Will had gone back to that.

When you say overmolded, do you mean overmolded in plastic, rubber, paint, or what?

Also, I like this V1 M79 better than the V2 one, because it has more detail. Is one going to be more "available" than the other one once the M79 becomes part of the official BA lineup?

By "overmolded" I mean injected with multiple colors on the same accessory, like the ones shown at the top of the thread. It is not currently possible to do this with production items; each overmolded item is hand-injected by Will.

I am very partial to the v1 design myself--without the raised band where the ladder sight usually is, the v2 just feels too plain by comparison. That is merely my own personal preference, though.

Regardless of which design ends up making it to production, the design that Will chooses will of course be more "available", as the prototypes will no longer be injected.

I don't need an overmolded one, we've been living with non-overmolded Brickarms for a long time and now people whine if one gun isn't overmolded. There's something called paint, and the guns don't always have to be perfect, just pretend that certain parts are differently colored. Anyways, when it comes out, I'll just buy a Brown one and paint the tube gunmetal. Tahdaa!

I think v1 is more accurate than v2, I think that the v2 is just lacking in detail. Besides making it more accurate the ring around the barrel makes it look a lot cooler too! (I have a v2)

I love both the V1 and V2 however, the V1 has a more realistic foregrip because in real life the foregrip did not cover the entire bottom of the gun.

this is fantastic! but wht if it was made hinged? like if the barrel was one piece in say gunmetal and the stock was brown, hinged in the middle, with a hinge maybe like is on the m1919. this would solve the issue of overmolding, and add a very cool feature. thts my two cents, but even if that doesnt happen this is still a fantastic gun

I was just wondering about that. I know the difficulty and extra time required, but a multi-piece assembly with a snap-on hinge (like the JFSC) would be amazing to behold.

Shots of the upcoming production version of the M79:

Image

It incorporates aspects of the V1 and V2 prototype designs in a way that definitely took into account all the feedback everyone had on those items. Yes, it is a single-piece item; Will decided that was best for this accessory for a variety of reasons, but then with a barrel that's distinct from the rest of the accessory, a bit of paint modification should be easy enough for those that want to give it a shot!

I know a few people will complain that the production model is not overmolded (I think WIll might have created a bit of a onster with is fantastic over-molded prototypes ;) ) but I think this is a delightfully accurate rendition of a classic weapon. With all of these new prototypes hitting production status this summer, I'm going to need to rethink my storage system to accommodate all of them

I assume that this is either:
A. part of a hither-to unannounced production mold, or
B. already in a production mold, but not before now showcased.
Personally, I'll imagine that it's the first one, because that makes me happier.
Although personally I am quite content with existing explosives, I feel we must not stand in the path of improvement.

That's making more than a few assumptions you really shouldn't! ;)

Rest assured, Will is still developing the M79, and he has more than a few neat items in regards to mass producing this item.

Wait so there is a chance i could get an over molded production m79!? I hope so. I'd really be happy if that does happen!

No, the production version is not over molded, it will be one color. Still, it will be awesome to be able to get a bloop gun. I would like gun metal or brown. Its hard to find proto m79 for sale that is not trans color.
