Chauchat

Firing Weaponry from World War I and II

Chauchat

Postby Dr.Orange » Wed Aug 24, 2011 7:28 am

I've decided to throw out another French weapon, this time World War 1. The Chauchat light machine gun.

Image

While it doesn't have the best reputation, I like the look of it. I also think it would be nice for not just World War 1, but Apocalypse and Steampunk.

I believe this weapon would be a great weapon to add to the lineup. Especially with the awkwardly facing pan magazine and the waay long barrel, it would be perfect for our Russian troops.

The problem would be the grip, it wouldn't fit with the current minifigure anatomy. Both the front and firing grips would be a problem. :/

True, though it is a British weapon, not Russian :P

French I thought (could be wrong)

I don't really like the design, too awkward and higgledy-piggledy and besides the "worst machine-gun ever" doesn't exactly sound like a weapon worthy of a place in the BA lineup...

French, yeah. Sorry, I've had too little sleep ;P
That doesn't mean it wouldn't make a good weapon. I like the drum o n the side, so who knows. Maybe Will does too and can find some use for it....

Quoted for Truth, and it was a French weapon. The Americans bought it at some point, but went back to the B.A.R. if I remember correctly. The design is rather clunky, and doesn't look very attractive at all. This is more of a weapon that needs to be forgotten instead of being created.

The chauchat was a terrible weapon because it jammed alot.I dont see the point in making one of these because of the stock's awkward postion.

French chautchat machinegun

Postby Haldir56 » Wed May 02, 2012 10:57 am

I thought that this gun would be a be a good addition to brickarms given it's unique shape.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chauchat

Also I'm not so sure on this one. The Chauchat was considered one of the worst machine guns of WWII.

It was one of the first mass produced automatic weapon and it was faired by germans,so i think it is a very good idea.

The Illustrated History of weaponry wrote:One of ww1's worst weapons, France's Chauchat automatic rifle was poorly made from sub-standard components. It fed the cartridges from a crescent-shaped magazine, an inaccurate and unreliable system for an automatic....

My book also stated that it was considered worse than useless. It may look unique, but does such a crappy weapon really deserve to be molded by brickarms?

The U.S. Army had them ALL destroyed after the war and replaced it with the M1918 B.A.R. It had problems not only with a jamming but also the iron-sights would become misaligned if the gun fired for too long and would need to be cooled for 10 minutes! That's a lot of time when you're getting shot at.
What are you doing!
But sir, you said fire at Will.

I have allways liked it's unique magizine and the carrying handel. I would love see this as a brickarm ecspesially since there aren't any french world war weapons produced by brickarms.

Chauchat LMG

Postby optic gull » Wed Jan 30, 2013 5:38 pm

I saw this in a show I was watching, and I thought it was a pretty unique design.

Image

The Chauchat (pronounced shosho) was an LMG used by the French in both world wars, and America when we first entered World War One. I think that this would be a great accessory for WW1 and 2 MOCs. It also would be good for apoc MOCs as well.

If made, I pity the minifigs that get to fire this gun, no offense.

I honestly don't think this gun is worthy of being a BrickArm. It was an unreliable machine gun, unique, but unreliable. It jammed a lot and got dirt and grime into it's chamber way too much, so yeah. It was a piece of junk. This should be forgotten rather than looked back on, unless you like looking at piles of scrap.

Another reason why this should not be made is because it was one of the world's very first light machine guns.

Actually, the BAR was used in VERY limited numbers during WW1.

But about the weapon... While it looks great and WW1 weapons are always awesome, I don't think Brickarms wants to manufacture the "worst machine gun ever."
